Where can I use Kraken?
We welcome clients from all over the world, with a few specific exceptions due to international and local financial & cryptocurrency regulations. Depending on your verified residency, you may have certain restrictions on your account. Refer to our Terms of Service for complete information on our eligibility criteria. Some account features are only available at certain verification levels.
This article outlines certain restrictions within our supported regions. A full list of the supported regions is shown on the account creation page.
Create a Kraken account
Our funding providers may, at their own discretion, deny funding to certain geographical locations.

Some regions are not yet able to use debit or credit cards. Please refer to our FAQ on debit and credit cards for the full list of accepted regions.

Africa

Central African Republic
Clients in Central African Republic can create an account but may be restricted from funding.
Eritrea
Clients in Eritrea can create an account but may be restricted from funding.

Kraken offers most services to our clients living in Belgium, with the following exception:
Cryptocurrency restrictions: Cannot deposit or trade KUJI, TREMP, WIF, and XMR.
Ireland
Kraken offers most services to our clients living in Ireland, with the following exception:
Cryptocurrency restrictions: Cannot deposit or trade KUJI, TREMP, WIF, and XMR.
Italy
Kraken offers most services to our clients living in Italy, with the following exception:
  • Clients residing in Italy cannot trade futures.
Cryptocurrency restrictions: Cannot deposit or trade KUJI, TREMP and WIF.
Netherlands
Kraken offers most services to our clients living in the Netherlands, with the following exception:
  • Clients residing in the Netherlands are subject to Opt-In Rewards limitations.
  • Clients residing in the Netherlands cannot deposit or trade KUJI, TREMP, WEN, and ZRO.
Spain
Kraken offers most services to clients living in Spain, with the following exceptions:
  • Clients residing in Spain cannot trade futures.
  • Clients residing in Spain cannot deposit or trade KUJI, TREMP, and WIF.
Ukraine
Kraken offers most services to clients living in Ukraine, with the exception of Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions. For information on Kraken's Ukraine Aid program, please visit our blog or FAQ page.
United Kingdom
Kraken offers most services to our clients living in the United Kingdom, with the following exceptions:
  • Due to the new regulations imposed by the FCA, UK clients will experience changes accessing the Kraken product. For more information visit: Changes for Clients Residing in the UK
  • Clients living in the United Kingdom cannot use Opt-In Rewards.
  • Clients living in the United Kingdom cannot trade futures.
Cryptocurrency restrictions: 
  • Cannot deposit or trade NOS, TREMP, and XMR.
  • Cannot buy or sell HNT.

North America

Kraken offers most services to our Canadian clients, with the following exceptions:

United States
Kraken offers most services to our American clients, with the following restrictions:
No services to NY, WA and ME residents
At this time, Kraken does not offer service to residents of:
  • Washington state (WA)
  • New York (NY)
  • Maine (ME)
While we strive to offer our services to all US residents, the cost of maintaining regulatory compliance in some states can be very high, forcing us to make hard choices about whether cost justifies doing business in the state.
If you move outside of these states, you can use your new address for regular verification. Be sure to provide a Proof of Residence document so we can legally provide our services to you.
On-chain staking restrictions
  • Staking is not available for residents of the United States. An overview of eligibility criteria for on-chain can be found here. If on-chain staking is not showing as an option for your account, you are not eligible for staking.
State-by-state funding restrictions
  • Residents of Texas and New Hampshire cannot deposit or hold EUR, nor trade EUR pairs. Residents of Massachusetts cannot deposit or withdraw funds via banks outside the United States.
Futures trading restrictions
  • Clients residing in the United States cannot trade futures.
