Changes to Derivatives offerings for EEA clients

Kraken is bringing Derivatives trading to our clients in the European Economic Area (EEA). This allows you to engage in new trading strategies with Futures all within a fully regulated and compliant environment under our new MiFID II license.

Derivatives are financial instruments that derive their value from an underlying asset, such as cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH). They enable you to speculate on price movements, hedge existing positions, and implement complex trading strategies with greater flexibility and leverage.


How to access Derivatives

If you're an existing client, no action is required at this time. We'll contact you in the coming weeks with more information about the next steps for transitioning to our new regulated entity.

New clients registering with Kraken will follow a streamlined process to access MiFID II-regulated products:

    Account creation and verification: Complete the standard Kraken sign up process, including Tier 3 or Tier 4 verification.

    Questionnaire and tax information: If you go to trade Futures, you will be prompted to complete the appropriateness questionnaire and provide your TIN.

  3. 3

    Activate products: Once you complete the required steps, your chosen products will be unlocked with the appropriate regulatory protections based on your client classification.

    Check your email: Look out for our email prompting you to complete the questionnaire and provide your TIN. You will also be prompted on the Kraken website or app to complete the questionnaire.

    Complete the questionnaire: Assess your suitability for trading advanced financial products.

  3. 3

    Provide tax information: Submit your TIN to comply with regulatory requirements.

  4. 4

    Access new products: Once you have completed the necessary steps, enjoy new trading capabilities with our regulated products.
