Overview of changes for EEA clients

Kraken is committed to providing a secure and regulated trading environment for our clients in the European Economic Area (EEA). To enhance our offerings and ensure compliance with European regulations, we have acquired a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II) license. This significant milestone allows us to introduce new financial products and improve your trading experience on our platform.

What's changing?

With the new MiFID II license, Kraken is expanding its product lineup to include:

To access these products, new Futures clients residing within the EEA will need to complete a brief questionnaire to assess their suitability for trading these financial instruments. Additionally, you will be required to provide your Tax Identification Number (TIN) to comply with EEA regulatory standards.

To ensure that our trading products are suitable for your investment goals and risk tolerance, all EEA clients must:

    Complete an on-platform questionnaire: This assessment helps us understand your knowledge and experience with derivatives.

    Provide your Tax Identification Number: Your TIN is necessary for regulatory compliance and to offer you the best trading experience.

You will receive an email prompting you to complete these steps. Please ensure you complete the questionnaire and provide your TIN by the specified deadline to continue accessing our new products.

If you're an existing client, no action is required at this time. We'll contact you in the coming weeks with more information about the next steps for transitioning to our new regulated entity.

New clients registering with Kraken will follow a streamlined process to access MiFID II-regulated products:

    Complete the standard Kraken sign up process, including Tier 3 or Tier 4 verification.

    Product Selection: During onboarding, select the products you think you’ll use.

    Questionnaire and tax information: If you select any MiFID II licensed products, you will be prompted to complete the appropriateness questionnaire and provide your TIN.

    Activate products: Once you complete the required steps, your chosen products will be unlocked with the appropriate regulatory protections based on your client classification.

    Check your email: Look out for our email prompting you to complete the questionnaire and provide your TIN. You will also be prompted on the Kraken website or app to complete the questionnaire.

    Complete the questionnaire: Assess your suitability for trading advanced financial products.

    Provide tax information: Submit your TIN to comply with regulatory requirements.

    Access new products: Once you have completed the necessary steps, enjoy new trading capabilities with our regulated products.
