Overview of Rewards on Kraken

What is Rewards?

Rewards enables you to earn crypto on every eligible asset in your account. Your assets will generate an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) through our Staking and Opt-in rewards programs, which compounds over time.

To use Rewards you simply need to turn it on and select whether you want to earn rewards from the Staking or Opt-in rewards programs, or both, across all eligible assets in your account. Once you have activated Rewards, Kraken will automatically allocate your assets and manage the whole process, with no further action required from you.

Assets enabled in Rewards are still available to trade (including Spot and Margin trades on Kraken Pro) or withdraw at any time.

Reward rates

Each asset will earn rewards at its own Annual Percentage Rate (APR). The reward rate is different per asset, and rewards will be paid out in kind. For example, if you are holding DOT you will receive your reward in DOT. In addition, any new funds deposited to your account would immediately start generating yield, but only if you have activated Rewards.

Rewards accrue daily and are paid out to your balance on a weekly basis.

Are there any limits?

You can earn rewards for any eligible asset with a balance of more than 1 USD. There is no limit to the amount of rewards that can be earned, however the total amount of each asset eligible for Rewards at any given time is capped.

For example, if the cap on DOT is 100k DOT, and you have 50k DOT, you will earn the APR on all of your assets. If you have 150k DOT, you will earn on the first 100k and not on the remaining 50k.

Am I eligible for Rewards?

To use Rewards:

Ensure your Kraken account is verified to the Intermediate level or above and be in a permitted location.
You may not use Rewards if you are a resident or a citizen of a prohibited location, including the United States and other restricted countries.

If Rewards is not showing as an option on your account, you may not be eligible.

Rewards is not available in the U.S. and certain other jurisdictions.

How do I turn on Rewards on Web?

On Kraken Web:

Sign in to your Kraken account.

On the homepage of your account click Rewards.

To activate Rewards click Start earning rewards. Your eligible assets will be shown in the popup screen.
Note: If you are currently using the Staking feature on Kraken Pro, Rewards will only be active on eligible non-staked assets.

On Kraken Pro Web:

Sign in to your Kraken Pro account and click on the Portfolio overview page.

To activate Rewards click Start earning now on the Rewards banner.

Click Get Started on the information page.

On the next screen your eligible assets will be displayed.

On the next screen the Rewards programs you can subscribe to will be displayed. Click on Agree & Turn on.

If our Opt-in rewards program is available in your region, you will be asked to select the reward programs you wish to enable under Rewards.

Note: If you are currently using the Staking feature on Kraken Pro, Rewards will only be active on eligible non-staked assets.

How do I turn on Rewards on the App?

Turn on Rewards on the Kraken App:

Open the Kraken app and tap the Home button.

Tap Earn.

Click Continue on the information page.

On the next screen your eligible assets will be displayed. Tap on Start earning rewards.

Once you have enabled Rewards you can start earning!

Turn on Rewards on the Kraken Pro App:

Open the Kraken Pro app and tap the Portfolio button.

To activate Rewards, tap the Rewards banner.

To pause Rewards on Web

When Rewards is paused in the balances tab you will see the message: Rewards is paused. You’re no longer earning on your assets. Resume earning anytime.

On Kraken Web:

Kraken Pro Web:

Once signed in, click on User settings followed by Settings.

In the Kraken Rewards section toggle the desired reward program you wish to disable.

Click Yes, Pause.

Once you have paused Rewards you’ll no longer be earning on your assets.You will receive any pending rewards once the current 7 day payout date ends.

You can turn Rewards back on at any time!

To pause Rewards on the App

Kraken App:

Swipe your finger from bottom to top and open the Earn information window.

What is the difference between Rewards and Staking on Kraken Pro?

Rewards:

The Rewards feature is accessed on the Kraken interface.
One button to turn on Rewards on all eligible assets in your account.
Unlike Staking on Kraken Pro there are no bonded assets.
Retains instant access to all assets to trade (including Spot and Margin on Kraken Pro) and withdraw.

Staking on Kraken Pro:

Staking is accessed on the Kraken Pro interface.
Select specific assets to stake.
Select bonded or flexible staking.
Instant un-staking only when using flexible terms.

Fees

There are currently no transaction fees for Rewards staking or unstaking. Kraken targets a commission of 20% based on the rewards you receive from the network. There are currently no fees for allocating assets to opt-in rewards programs.

Staking Rewards are generated by staking a portion of your eligible assets on chain, Kraken keeps the remainder unstaked for liquidity purposes. You will receive network rewards on up to 50% of your Rewards assets. Opt-in Rewards are generated by automatically allocating your eligible spot balances to our Opt-in rewards program.

The APR rates shown are an estimate of the rewards you could receive on the assets you hold, before our commission, and are based on the average staking rewards accrued over the past period. In cases where we are subject to a validator commission, the APR rates shown are after such commissions.
