Unable to withdraw funds

Withdrawal hold

If there's a withdrawal hold on your account, you may see a "Balance is insufficient for a withdrawal" error or the withdrawal page may say that your funds are "Withheld" or that withdrawals are blocked.

If you are unable to withdraw your funds — such as US Dollar (USD), Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Euro (EUR) or Canadian Dollars (CAD) — there may be several reasons for this. Review the list below to help you identify the reason for the hold and find a solution.

Some cash deposit methods trigger a temporary withdrawal hold. For example, deposits via ACH Plaid will trigger a 7 day withdrawal hold. Additionally, there are purchase methods that may trigger a 72 hour withdrawal hold. Please visit our article which contains details regarding each time-based withdrawal hold.

Note: During these hold times, your funds are available for trading.
Solution: wait until the withdrawal hold has expired. Kraken Support is unable to bypass a time-based withdrawal hold.

If you make any changes to your password, withdrawals to new withdrawal addresses will be held for up to 24 hours, for security purposes. Addresses that you already added to your account won’t be affected.

Do you have any orders open or pending? Funds that are used in an open or pending order cannot be withdrawn.

Solution: cancel the open orders.

Do you have the currency available in your Kraken account? Although you may see the total amount held in your account, you may have it selected where your account shows the total sum of all of your currencies shown in a specific currency, though all of your currencies held are treated separately. An example is if you hold both Pound sterlings (GBP) and eurozone euros (EUR) in your account, you can't withdraw the total amount in a single US Dollars (USD) withdrawal.

Solution: exchange your balances to the currency you want to withdraw.

Do you have any open spot positions on margin? Spot positions on margin require collateral and that collateral cannot be withdrawn while the positions are open.

Solution: close the open spot positions on margin.

Do you have any assets staked or allocated to Staking or Opt-In Rewards products in Kraken Pro? These balances must be unstaked/deallocated before they can be withdrawn.

Do you have a negative balance in any currency? This will prevent withdrawals from your account.

Solution: deposit funds in the currency that has a negative balance or exchange other currencies to make up for the negative balance.
