Export your DeFi Earn Wallet

What is wallet export?

Your DeFi Earn wallet is designed to be self-custodial. This means you always have the ability to take full control of your wallet and manage it outside of Kraken.

Wallet export allows you to reveal and take possession of the private key for your embedded DeFi wallet. With this private key, you can import your wallet into any compatible crypto wallet application and manage it independently.

Once exported, Kraken will no longer manage or display balances for that wallet. You will continue to see your DeFi transaction history though for your records.

Exporting your wallet is permanent and cannot be reversed.

Before continuing, please understand the following:

  • You will no longer see balances from this wallet inside Kraken. Your DeFi Earn balance on Kraken will be reduced to zero for the exported wallet.

  • Any active DeFi Earn allocations will continue earning after export. To withdraw or manage those allocations, you will need to interact with the protocols directly from another wallet using your private key.

  • To access your funds after export, you must import the wallet into another wallet application using the private key.

  • Your private key must be stored securely and never shared with anyone.

  • Anyone with your private key has full access to your wallet and all its balances.

  • Kraken cannot recover your private key if you lose it.

Note:

Exporting your wallet must be completed on kraken.com or pro.kraken.com, it is not possible to export using the mobile apps.

How to export your wallet

    Click your profile picture in the top-right corner.

    Click Earn Settings.

    Scroll down to Embedded Wallets.

  4. 4

    Open the menu (⋮) next to your wallet, and select Unlink and export wallet.

  5. 5

    Review the warning screen carefully. This screen shows which balances will be unlinked from your Kraken account and confirms that your DeFi allocations will continue earning.

    Select Continue.

    On the next screen, review the export details, including that exports are permanent and that losing your private key removes access permanently. Check the box confirming that you accept the risks and responsibility for securing your private key.

    Then, click Reveal key and export wallet.

    Complete the two-factor authentication (2FA) step.

    Your private key will be displayed on screen. Write it down and store it somewhere safe. You can also use the Copy button to copy it to your clipboard.

    A countdown timer shows how long the private key will remain visible (up to 24 hours).

    Check the box confirming that you have written down your private key. Then, click Close.

After closing, you will be returned to the main Kraken page. The wallet balances will no longer appear in your account.

    Scroll down to Embedded Wallets.

    Open the menu (⋮) next to your wallet, and select Unlink and export wallet.

Viewing your private key after export

For convenience, you can view your private key again for up to 24 hours after export.

After 24 hours, the option to view the private key will no longer be available. Make sure you have stored your private key securely before this window closes.

    Find the wallet marked Exported, then open the menu (⋮), and select View private key.

What happens to your funds

Exporting your wallet does not move your funds. Your assets remain onchain at the same wallet address.

To access them, import the wallet into another wallet application using the private key.

Any DeFi Earn allocations associated with the wallet will continue operating according to the protocol rules. To withdraw or manage those positions, you will need to use a third-party wallet connected to your exported private key.

You can still use DeFi Earn after exporting a wallet.

When you start a new DeFi Earn allocation, Kraken will automatically create a new embedded wallet for your account. Your previously exported wallet will remain completely separate.

Your private key is the only way to control your wallet outside of Kraken. Please follow these best practices:

  • Write down your private key and store it offline in a secure location.

  • Never share your private key with anyone.

  • No Kraken support agent will ever ask for your private key. If someone does, it is a scam.

  • Anyone with your private key can access and move your funds.

  • If you lose your private key, Kraken cannot recover your wallet or funds.

Troubleshooting

You may need to complete device verification before exporting your wallet. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify your device, then try the export again.

In some cases, additional security checks may prevent wallet export. If your account has been flagged for review, the export option may be temporarily disabled. Contact Kraken Support for assistance.

If your account has holds (for example, pending margin activity) that exceed the balance remaining after export, you will need to wait for those holds to clear before you can proceed.

In rare cases, the export may complete on Kraken's side but the private key screen may not load correctly. If this happens, go back to Earn Settings → Embedded Wallets, find the wallet marked Exported, and select View private key to retrieve it. This option is available for 24 hours after export. If you continue to experience issues, contact Kraken Support.
