Customize and manage sounds in Kraken Desktop

Kraken Desktop provides powerful audio customization so you can control which notifications play and how they sound. This guide explains how to manage default audio events, import new sound packs, and use a variety of audio effects (such as Distortion, Filter, and Reverb) to create the perfect sonic environment for your trading terminal.

Click the menu button in the top right corner. (Button with 3 lines)

Select Sounds from the dropdown to open the Sounds panel.
Once this panel is open, you will see options for selecting a Sound Pack, adjusting global volume, and customizing individual sound events.
This is where all pre-loaded and imported sound packs can be selected. You may also use the buttons below the selector to:

Create a new mood: Moods allow you to make sound packs based off of an existing sound packs audio files. For example, you can make a daytime mood and nighttime mood using the same sounds for both moods.

Revert changes for mood: Reset all changes that have been made to a mood.

Open sound pack directory: Click here to open the sound_packs folder. Here is where you can import custom sound packs.

Master Volume Slider: Move this slider to change the overall loudness of all alerts.

Visual Module Indicator: Adjust (or turn off) visual indicators that highlight which module is triggering a sound.
Kraken Desktop contains a wide variety of sound events. Each one has a file selector, a playback button, volume and balance sliders, and an optional effects panel.

General: Application Launch, Connection Established, Connection Dropped, Push Notification, User Logout
- •
User orders: All Cancelled, Cancelled, Error, Filled, Partially Filled, Placed, Rejected
- •
Market data: Buy, Highlight Buy, Sell, Highlight Sell, Large Order Added, Large Order Removed, Local High, Local Low, Spread Narrowed, Spread Widened.
You can preview each event by clicking its play button. To remove a sound you don’t need, click the trash can icon. This keeps your chosen sounds while eliminating unwanted notifications.
Each event can have its own volume level and stereo balance. Use the sliders below the file selector to set how loud the event plays and whether it leans more to the left or right speaker.
Kraken Desktop’s Sounds panel includes an Add effects option that lets you shape or transform each alert. You can stack multiple effects on a single sound. Simply click Add effects, choose an effect from the dropdown, and adjust the controls. Some of the main effects include:
Distortion:

Hard Clip or Soft Clip: Determines how aggressively the sound is distorted. Hard clipping gives a grittier, more intense edge, while soft clipping is subtler.

Drive: Sets how much of the distortion is applied. Higher values produce a harsher, more saturated tone.
- •
Mix: Controls the blend of the distorted signal versus the original. A higher mix means more distortion is heard.
Filter:
Filters let you boost or cut certain frequencies, changing the overall character of a sound. There are four filter types you can apply:

LP (Low-Pass): Allows frequencies below the cutoff to pass, removing higher tones.
- •
BP (Band-Pass): Emphasizes frequencies around the cutoff while reducing lower and higher frequencies.
- •
HP (High-Pass): Allows only frequencies above the cutoff to pass, removing the low end.
- •
NP (Notch/Notch-Pass): Removes a narrow band of frequencies around the cutoff, leaving both low and high frequencies intact.
Key filter controls include:
- •
Cutoff: Sets the frequency threshold where the filter starts to act.
- •
Resonance: Determines how sharp or pronounced the filter’s effect is near the cutoff point.
- •
Mix: Blends the filtered signal with the original sound. A higher mix means more filtering is applied.
Reverb:
Reverb simulates the acoustic space of a room or environment, adding depth and echo. Common controls are:
- •
Feedback: Adjusts how many times the echoes repeat and how long they linger.
- •
Damping: Governs how quickly high frequencies fade, making the echo brighter or more muted.
- •
Width: Controls the stereo spread, from mono (lower width) to wide, immersive reverberation.
- •
Mix: Blends the reverberated signal with the original sound. Higher values produce a more spacious, echoed tone.
To delete an effect, click the trash can icon on the right side of the effect title.

From the Sounds settings, click the Open directory button below the Sound Pack selector.

This will open the sound_packs directory, here is where you can drag and drop folders containing supported audio files. (mp3, wav, ogg, or flac)

After you've imported the theme, you may select it from the Sound Pack dropdown.
Once you've selected your new sound pack, your sound settings will automatically populate with your new sounds. If you don't want a certain sound event, you may simply remove it by clicking the trash can icon next to the sound.
