Self-hosted wallet verification with digital signature

What is a digital signature wallet verification?

A digital signature is a secure way to prove that you own a self-hosted wallet, without needing to send any crypto. It’s one of the methods we use to verify wallet ownership, helping us meet regulatory requirements and keep your account secure.

This process involves connecting your wallet (using Reown, formerly WalletConnect) and signing a unique message we generate. The message is non-transactional: signing it doesn’t move any funds. It simply confirms that you control the private key for the address.

You may be asked to verify your wallet before:

  • Withdrawing crypto to a self-hosted wallet

  • Depositing from a new self-hosted wallet

Verification ensures that you are in control of the wallet.

When prompted to verify a self-hosted wallet, here’s what you can expect:

  1. 1

    Connect your wallet
You’ll be asked to choose a wallet provider (like MetaMask, Trust Wallet) and connect via Reown (formerly WalletConnect).

  2. 2

    Sign the verification message
Once connected, we’ll generate a unique message for you to sign. This message is non-transactional and doesn’t move any crypto, it proves that you control the wallet.

  3. 3

    Receive confirmation
If the signature is valid and matches the wallet address you're verifying, the process completes successfully.

  4. 4

    If there’s a mismatch
If the signed address doesn’t match the address you’re trying to verify, you’ll be prompted to connect a different wallet or cancel.

  5. 5

    On mobile?
For BTC and SOL wallets, digital signature verification is not yet supported in the mobile apps. You’ll be redirected to the web version to complete the process.

Digital signature verification currently supports EVM-compatible wallets (like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and others).

Bitcoin (BTC) and Solana (SOL) wallets are not supported in our mobile apps at this time. If you're using a BTC or SOL wallet, you’ll need to complete verification through the web app instead.
