How to swap tokens using DEX Trading

DEX Trading brings onchain token swaps directly into the Kraken Pro web experience. You can search for, review, and trade onchain assets that aren't yet listed on Kraken, without leaving the platform or managing external wallets, bridges, or gas yourself. Swaps run through a self-custodial embedded wallet, and transactions are gasless, so you don't need to hold native tokens for gas.

DEX Trading supports onchain assets across Ethereum mainnet, Solana, Ink, Base, Optimism, and Arbitrum.

Before you start

DEX Trading is available on Kraken Pro web. Make sure you're signed in to your Kraken Pro account before you begin.

Open DEX Trading and check your wallet balance

  1. Sign in to Kraken Pro on the web.
  2. In the left sidebar, hover over the Trade button, then click DEX.
  3. Ensure that you have a balance of USDC in your DEX Trading wallet. If you need to fund your wallet and need assistance, view our guide.

Find the token you want to swap

Searching for DEX assets is similar to the existing market search you're already used to on Kraken Pro.

  1. In the top-left corner of Kraken Pro, click the Search for market bar.
  2. Next, filter for DEX assets by clicking the DEX filter.
  3. This will now ensure that you're only looking at DEX assets. From here, you can also filter by network using the Network filter in the top right of the results window.
  4. Select the token from the results to open its page, where you can review its basic information and price chart before you trade.

Swap your tokens

  1. From the coin page, you'll see an Order Form. Enter the amount of USDC you'd like to trade, or the quantity of the coin you'd like to purchase.
  2. After you've typed this in, you'll see the Order details window populate with information such as the rate, slippage percentage, and other details. It is important to review these details before submitting your trade.
  3. If you are satisfied with the order, click Buy or Sell in the Order Form. This will initiate the onchain transaction to purchase or sell your coins.

The processing time after clicking buy or sell may vary, and typically only takes a few seconds.

Confirm and track your order

Once you've initiated a DEX trade, the transaction will display as Pending in the Balances section at the bottom of your screen. Once the transaction is complete (usually in a few seconds), the coins will display in your balances as normal.
