Upcoming changes for our US clients

Kraken no longer serves clients who reside in Maine. Last year, we notified Maine clients that Kraken would be halting services for clients residing in Maine from June 1, 2024. Unfortunately, this change is final for now, and we must ask you to withdraw your funds from Kraken within the next 90 days, if you reside in the state of Maine.

What this means for Maine residents

For clients in Maine please withdraw your funds by April 12, 2025.

Assets remaining on Kraken after this date will be classified as abandoned and will be escheated to the state of Maine in accordance with state law. This means your funds will be transferred to the state and no longer accessible through Kraken. We strongly encourage you to act now to avoid this outcome.

If you have any further questions about the above, or would like support in helping you transfer or withdraw your funds please don’t hesitate to contact support, we’re available to help 24/7.

While we always strive to provide access to as many clients as possible, at times, there are specific state level considerations that impede our ability to do so.

Although we expect to restart services to Maine clients in the future, we don’t have a firm timeline at this moment.

We ask that you withdraw your funds as soon as possible, and prior to April 12, 2025.

As a reminder, if you do not withdraw your assets before this date, assets remaining on Kraken after this date will be classified as abandoned and will be escheated to the state of Maine in accordance with state law. This means your funds will be transferred to the state and no longer accessible through Kraken.

We care deeply about our mission of accelerating the adoption of cryptocurrency globally and Kraken remains committed to growing in the U.S. market. We continuously evaluate our presence across all geographies and regions we operate in and will always strive to provide access to as many clients as possible.

We don’t have any other changes to share.

The SEC lawsuit against Kraken is unrelated and was not a factor in deciding to stop serving Maine clients.

Kraken can’t comment on its discussions with specific regulators. We continue to strive towards our mission of accelerating the adoption of cryptocurrency. This goal is our first priority as we engage with clients, the general public and regulators.

We are halting services and we expect to restart services to Maine clients in the future, though we don’t have a firm timeline at this moment.
