Choose between a self-custody and embedded wallet

Last updated: 15 September 2026

Kraken Wallet supports two wallet types. Both let you use onchain apps and hold supported assets, but they use different recovery and device-access models.

  • You control a 12-, 18-, or 24-word recovery phrase.

  • The recovery phrase and private keys are protected on your device.

  • You can restore the wallet with the recovery phrase or an encrypted cloud backup.

  • Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Solana, and supported EVM networks are available.

  • You access the wallet using a supported sign-in method, such as email, Google, Apple, or passkey.

  • You can use the wallet on multiple supported devices after signing in.

  • You can export the wallet's private keys from Settings.

  • Bitcoin, Solana, and supported EVM networks are available. Dogecoin is not supported.

  • Network fees may be sponsored on supported EVM transactions.

Seed phrase wallets do not become embedded wallets. You can add an embedded wallet later from Settings and use both wallet types in the same app.
