The Kraken app, or just simply ‘Kraken’ is Kraken's platform for buying, selling, and managing crypto on your phone. It's separate from Kraken Pro, which is built for advanced trading tools and professional traders.

This is an app store restriction and not related to your current address registered with Kraken.

The default currency in the app is based on your location. To change your displayed currency, go to your account in the top left, tap "Preferences," then tap "Currency" and choose your preferred option. We currently support USD, EUR, CAD, GBP, CHF, and AUD.

We have a comprehensive guide on 2FA methods you can follow. Currently, only sign-in 2FA is fully compatible with this app.If you have Funding 2FA enabled on your account, you can place orders from current balances but it won't be possible to place orders with a card.With Trading 2FA enabled, you can place orders from current balances but you can not add or delete cards or make card payments. With the Global Settings Lock enabled you can not add or delete cards. 

To set up sign-in 2FA in the app:

    Tap on the Account tab.

    Tap on to Security and scroll down to Two Factor Authentication.

    Select either Authenticator App or Passkeys.

To complete the process, follow the on-screen instructions as they appear within the app. The process may differ depending on what device you use.

To set up 2FA with an Authenticator App:

    Make sure you have an Authenticator App installed.

  2. 2

    Select Authenticator App after tapping on Two Factor Authentication.

  3. 3

    Your Authenticator App will open automatically - tap OK to save the key for your Kraken account.

    We recommend going back to the app at this point to save your secret key somewhere safe for backup, and then tap Next.

    Go back to the Authenticator App and copy the one-time passcode for your new account's 2FA entry.

    Paste or type the one-time passcode into the Kraken app.

    Success! You have successfully enabled sign-in 2FA for your account.

In order to protect your account security, the Kraken app recommends that you provide your devices unlock credentials to access the app. This can be whichever method you use to unlock your phone such as biometrics (fingerprint, facial recognition, etc.) or a PIN. If your device does not have a PIN registered, the app will ask you to create a PIN.

Your watchlist assets appear as large cards in the Home page, allowing you to quickly view the price of assets you are interested in. By default, BTC and ETH are watchlisted. You can watchlist a new asset by opening the asset page and tapping the star button in the top right corner. To un-watch an asset, simply press the star button once again.

Yes, you can convert between cryptocurrencies within the app.

On the final order confirmation page before making a purchase you will see a confirmation of your purchase and a full breakdown of fees, which will depend on the payment method being used.

Note: While Kraken displays these fees for our clients, this is not consistent across all trading platforms. Platforms/services that do not disclose their fees typically build them into the spread, which would result in paying higher than the current market rate.

You can visualize how your historical portfolio has performed over time with the line chart view. A 1 month view is selected by default. You can choose from any of the following time ranges, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and ALL.  Portfolio performance can be manually calculated by exporting your account history.
