Why is 2FA mandatory for my account?

Last updated: May 26, 2025

As part of ongoing efforts to improve security, you will be required to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your account from 6 May, 2025.

This requirement is based on several factors, including your account balance, risk profile, and regulatory obligations. If you're prompted to enable 2FA during sign-in and see a screen that cannot be dismissed, this means you are required to set it up in order to continue using Kraken.

What is 2FA?

Enabling 2FA provides a strong, reliable layer of protection against unauthorized access, and helps ensure that only you can access your account, even if someone else obtains your password. For more information see our 2FA basics and 2FA troubleshooting articles.

Will my trading be affected?

No. If you are prompted to enable 2FA, your trading activity, open orders, positions, and API keys will remain unaffected. You’ll simply need to complete the 2FA setup to regain access to your account.
